Vilmoș Szabo (European Championships 2014)

Vilmoș Szabo (born December 30, 1964 in Brașov ) is a Romanian saber fencer and fencing trainer.

Life

Vilmos Szabo fought for Romania from 1977 to 1997. In 1993 he moved to Germany with his wife Reka Lazăr-Szabo and since then has been working as a trainer at TSV Bayer Dormagen, and in 2008 he became national coach of male saber fencing. His son Matyas Szabo also fights.

successes

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Vilmoș Szabo won bronze with the Romanian team. In 1992 in Barcelona he finished fourth with the team and 26th in the individual. In 1994 Szabo won bronze at the European Championships in Kraków in singles, and bronze with the team at the World Championships in Athens . In 1996 at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Szabo finished seventh with the team and 16th in the individual.
