The Vilnius-Marathon is a since 2004 taking place marathon in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius . Danske Bank is the main sponsor and namesake. The organizer is the VšĮ “Tarptautinis maratonas” institution. The previous run began in 2001 as a 10 km run. The time limit is 5 hours 30 minutes.

You can choose between a marathon, half marathon, a 10 km distance, a marathon relay, a family run or a stroller marathon.

The partly very hilly route with steep passages runs along many sights. The historic old town of Vilnius is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the largest of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe. It is characterized by impressive buildings from the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods.

In 1990 the first marathon was organized in Vilnius.

From 2001 the running festival "MAXIMA taurė" took place with the main sponsor MAXIMA . The organizer was Lietuvos lengvosios atletikos federacija .

In 2004 "MAXIMA taurė" became Tarptautinis Vilniaus maratonas . Vilnius Municipality was among the organizers .

In 2012 Tarptautinis Vilniaus maratonas became Danske Bank Vilniaus maratonas .

In 2018 the run had over 15,000 participants from 55 nations.

The Vilnius Maraton 2018 was the first marathon in the world where runners were rewarded with cryptocurrency ( LYM ) for participating .
