history

In the 1970s, the Vineyard movement emerged in southern California under the leadership of John Wimber . Wimber was a former jazz producer (including for the Righteous Brothers ) and under his influence musicians and songwriters gathered who wrote new songs for church services. They were characterized by simplicity and emotional language. When Vineyard became known beyond local borders, these songs were in demand and so Wimber founded Mercy Publishing to distribute sheet music and song material. Vineyard Music emerged from Mercy Publishing. The first albums were created in 1984 in the series Songs of the Vineyard and were recorded live. They were initially produced by Randy Rigby and John Wimber as executive producers.

In 1987 the first studio in Anaheim was built and used for recordings. In 1989 a series of live recordings began under the title Touching the Father's Heart . 1993 followed the conference recordings Winds of Worship and a number of solo projects. The first production outside the US came in 1998 with the release of Come, Now is the Time under the direction of Brian Doerksen. In 2005, the independent British brand Vineyard Records UK was created .

German-speaking area

A working group has been developing the topics and products for Germany, Austria and Switzerland since 2009. The group's manifesto states:

As Vineyard DACH, we face the challenge of passing on our core value of worship to the next generation.
We build on a rich legacy of values: the presence of God and intimacy with God, mercy and justice, passion, integrity and accessibility, understood in the context of community and God's Kingdom.
We want to preserve this heritage, develop it further and implement it in our context, towards a holistic lifestyle of worship. By this we mean that God's kingdom becomes visible through our actions. Worship is inextricably linked with justice and working in a seeking world.
We want to shape a sustainable culture of worship that continually develops the depth and breadth of worship for our and future generations. Depth in the quality of the encounter with God. Expansiveness in reaching people inside and outside the church. We want to empower as many people as possible to lead a lifestyle of worship and guide others in it, whether on stage, in the street or in the living room.
We want to constantly promote new and inspiring (German) songs and creative forms of worship. Subcultures should also find a voice. We promote songwriting, personalities and the arts. The new songs should be spread simply and in a contemporary way, and enrich churches in worship. Personalities are meant to embody and multiply the values of worship.
The networking of the worship leaders should grow, they should be on the move with each other and constantly raise the standard. Relationships are a high priority and our way of development.
