Vipul's Razor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vipul's Razor is a checksum based, distributed, collaborative email , spam detection and filtering network. It is available as free software under the Artistic License .

Razor is based on a distributed catalog of spam that is constantly updated through user feedback. E-mail clients and servers can filter known spam in this way. The recognition is based on statistical and random signatures. The user feedback is weighted using a feedback rating system: Users are given a reputation that rates the reliability of their feedback. The reputation is adjusted based on (matching) feedback.

Vipul's Razor is written in Perl and is mainly developed by Vipul Ved Prakash .

Although Razor is particularly suitable for e-mail clients, it is currently mainly used by server-side spam filters (e.g. SpamAssassin ).

A commercial offshoot of Razor that uses the same network is Cloudmark Desktop , which is available as a plug-in for Microsoft Outlook , Outlook Express and Mozilla Thunderbird .
