Logical channel numbering

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Logical Channel Numbering (English, abbreviated LCN , German roughly logical channel numbering ), also called Virtual Channel in English-speaking countries , is a functionality of television sets and other devices that canreceivedigital television signals. Terminal devices that are equipped with this functionality can use a channel number transmitted by the transmitter to assign them to the corresponding channel on the receiving device. The user is spared the manual assignment of the received stations to the channel numbers of the terminal. Another advantage for the user is that the channel numbers on the terminal do not change when additional channels are activated by the broadcaster.
