Virtual specialist library for German studies

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Virtual Specialized Library for German Studies - German Studies on the Net (GiN) was a virtual specialist library that enabled scientific internet research for specialist information relevant to German . As a special collection area library for the subject of German studies, the Johann Christian Senckenberg University Library in Frankfurt am Main was responsible for setting up and coordinating the project.

The development of the portal was supported by the German Research Foundation ( DFG ) (project duration: November 1, 2004 - October 31, 2008).

The Virtual Library for German Studies was primarily aimed at Germanists in research, teaching and studies. A cross-catalog search for selected digital and conventional media and other information relevant to German studies was started with a click of the mouse. To this end, important specialist information providers from the German-speaking area have joined together in a project network and contributed their stocks, ideas and skills.

With the start of the Fachinformationsdienst (FID) Germanistik, the portal was transferred to the portal of the FID. All functionalities are still available in FID Germanistik.
