Viscount Castlecomer was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland , named after Castlecomer in County Kilkenny .

Award and history of the title

The title was created on March 15, 1707 by Queen Anne for the politician Sir Christopher Wandesford, 2nd Baronet . Together with the Viscount title he was awarded the subordinate title Baron Wandesford . As early as 1687 he had inherited the title of Baronet , of Kirklington in the County of York , from his father Sir Christopher Wandesford, 1st Baronet (1628-1687), which had been awarded to this on August 5, 1662 in the Baronetage of England .

His grandson, the 5th Viscount, was also elevated to Earl Wandesford on August 15, 1758 in the Peerage of Ireland . All four titles expired on his death on January 12, 1784.
