Viscount Mersey
Viscount Mersey , of Toxteth in the County Palatine of Lancaster , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
The Viscount family residence is in Bignor Park near Pulborough in Sussex .
Award and subordinate titles
The title was created on January 22, 1916 for the lawyer and politician John Bigham, 1st Baron Mersey . As early as March 16, 1910, he was raised to Baron Mersey , of Toxteth in the County Palatine of Lancaster, also in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
The 4th Visount inherited the title 13th Lord Nairne from his mother Katherine Bigham in 1995 . In contrast to the titles mentioned above, this can also be inherited in the female line in the absence of male offspring. Since the current holder of the title, the 5th Viscount, has no sons, his daughter is the likely heir to the Lordship Nairne, while his uncle is the next entitled title heir to the Viscountcy and Barony Mersey.
