Viscount Plumer
Viscount Plumer , of Messines and of Bilton in the County of York , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award and history of the title
The title was created on June 24, 1929 for Field Marshal Herbert Plumer, 1st Baron Plumer .
On October 4, 1919, he had also been raised to Baron Plumer , of Messines and of Bilton in the County of York, also in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . The territorial dedication of both titles refers to the victorious Battle of Messines in 1917, which Plumer had commanded.
Both titles expired with the death of his son Thomas Plumer , the 2nd Viscount, on February 24, 1944.
