Vision (Thomas Mann)
Vision is a prose sketch by Thomas Mann , which was written in 1893 for the Lübeck school magazine " Der Frühlingssturm ".
content
Not much happens in this text. It is the narrator's gaze that is fixed on the young lady's hand adorned with a ring. The narrator cools his hot blood by talking about damask and a crystal goblet - props that are familiar from photos of Wilhelmine living rooms. What is timeless, however, triggers an emotion in the narrator. It's a pulsation and throbbing close to the vein on the bare forearm including a delicate hand in that room. Yes, lost love for girls is certainly earth-shaking. After all, in the end the narrator can cry over the lost love for a girl, let the tears run free.
