The Vitesco Technologies GmbH (until autumn 2019 Continental Powertrain ), based in Regensburg is a German automotive supplier for drive technologies. Vitesco Technologies is a division of Continental AG and develops solutions for electric drives and combustion engines .

history

Vitesco Technologies location

On January 1, 2019, the drive division named Continental Powertrain was spun off and is to be spun off from Continental AG in 2020. As a result of the restructuring of Continental AG, the Powertrain drive division is to become one of three corporate divisions from January 2020 - alongside the Automotive Technologies and Rubber Technologies divisions. At the same time, the change of the brand name Continental Powertrain to Vitesco Technologies was announced, which was officially adopted on October 1, 2019. The new brand name is derived from the Latin word "Vita" (life). The company wants to show that, as a provider of innovative technologies, it can react quickly and individually to the requirements of the industry.

In October 2019, Continental announced its intention to spin off Vitesco Technologies through a spin-off, followed by a listing on the stock exchange.

Corporate structure

Vitesco Technologies was founded in order to be able to act in a more independent and flexible manner. The management of Vitesco Technologies (until now Continental Powertrain) consists of Andreas Wolf, Werner Volz and Ingo Holstein. There are three business units that operate economically independently, Electronic Components, Electrification Technology and Sensing and Actuation.

Vitesco Technologies employs around 40,000 people at around 50 locations worldwide. In 2018, an order intake of 11 billion euros was achieved (Continental Powertrain). The division generated sales of EUR 7.8 billion in the 2019 financial year.

Products

The company develops intelligent system solutions and components for electric, hybrid and combustion drives. The product portfolio includes electric drives, electronic controls, sensors and actuators as well as solutions for exhaust gas treatment.

The product range from Vitesco Technologies covers all variants of the electric drive, from 48-volt systems and hybrid technologies to high-voltage components. In 2019, the division presented its 48-volt high-power drive solution with an initial output of 30 kW. The 48-volt hybrid component, which includes an electric machine with integrated power electronics and a battery, has functions that are comparable to those of a high-voltage electric drive, but can be built more compact, lighter and more cost-effective with the same output. According to the company, the drive system in hybrid vehicles helps to reduce fuel consumption by 20 percent compared to internal combustion engines. In the high-voltage segment, Vitesco Technologies offers an axle drive in two power levels with 120 or 150 kW. The high-voltage drive combines the electric machine, power electronics and reduction gear in one housing. Due to its size and its performance data, it can be used in numerous vehicle classes and concepts.

Power electronics, which control the interaction between the electric machine and battery, is another component of the product portfolio. Vitesco Technologies equips various types of electrified automobiles with the right power electronics: from plug-in hybrid models to electric cars with highly integrated axle drives to high-performance electric vehicles. The integrated power module enables currents of up to 650 amps. It supplies the electric machine with electricity and also controls energy recovery (recuperation).
