The Vivek was a Vikram class ship of the Indian Coast Guard and was designated OPV 38 ( Offshore Patrol Vessel ). It cost three billion Indian rupees and was used to fight smuggling , environmental pollution and rescuing shipwrecked people.

On March 20, 2010 the Vivek was brought to the Port Trust of Mumbai for repair work and should leave it on March 31. However, on March 23, 2010 she was rammed by the Panamanian cargo ship MV Global Purity and sank.
