Vivente Rege

The expression Vivente Rege ( Latin for during the king's lifetime ) denotes the election of a new king, usually from the ranks of the own dynasty , during the reign of the reigning king.

The Polish King John II Casimir was a strong representative of Vivente Rege towards the end of his reign, but his reform project was prevented by the Lubomirski Confederation , as it feared an absolutist form of government in Poland-Lithuania .
