Vladas Garastas (born February 8, 1932 in Linkuva , Pakruojis Rajongemeinde ) is a Lithuanian basketball coach and basketball official.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1952 at Biržai , Garastas graduated from Lietuvos valstybinis kūno kultūros institutas in 1959 . Since 2004 he has been an honorary doctor of the Sports University of Lithuania .

From 1952 to 1960 he played "Žalgiris" with Kaunas . From 1956 worked as a trainer in Biržai . From 1959 to 1970 he headed the Biržai Sports Committee and from 1971 to 1978 the Biržai Sports School. From 1992 to 1997 he was the head coach of the Lithuanian national basketball team . From 2003 to 2011 he was President of Lietuvos krepšinio federacija . His successor is Arvydas Sabonis .

From 1979 to 1989 he was the head coach of Kaunas "Žalgiris".
