The Lithuanian Sports University ( Lithuanian : Lietuvos sporto universitetas , LSU ) is the only university educational institution for sports science in Lithuania . Since it was founded, it has been located in the Kaunas district of Žaliakalnis in the immediate vicinity of the local Kaunas sports hall and the S.Dariaus and S.Girėno stadium .

history

The academy's precursors were training courses for sports teachers at grammar schools that existed in Kaunas between 1934 and 1938 before they were affiliated with the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas . The current institution was founded as Lietuvos valstybinis kūno kultūros institutas in 1945 and renamed in 1999.

structure

The sports university has three faculties, sixteen chairs and 6 laboratories. There is the library of the Lithuanian Sports University .

2,650 students are taught by 125 teachers, including 10 professors and 69 lecturers.

The LKL basketball club LSU-Baltai Kaunas (formerly Atletas ) plays at the university .

Graduates

The institution's graduates included European boxing champion Algirdas Šocikas and Olympic champions Modestas Paulauskas , Valdemaras Chomičius , Rimas Kurtinaitis and Virgilijus Alekna .
