history

The history of the academy begins in 1922 with the establishment of a veterinary department at the University of Lithuania . In 1936 the Veterinary Academy was spun off as an independent educational institution.

In 1960 the Lithuanian Veterinary Research Institute ( Lietuvos veterinarijos mokslinio tyrimo institutas ) was founded in Kaišiadorys . In the same year, the Department for Infectious Infectious Diseases of Farm Animals and Birds ( Žemės ūkio gyvulių ir paukščių užkrečiamųjų ligų skyrius ) was established. The Laboratory for Animal Growth Diseases ( Gyvulių prieauglio ligų laboratorija ) was later set up in this department . 4 multidisciplinary experimental farms were available to the institute: in Baisogala , Šeduva , Vėriškiai (all in Radviliškis district ) and Merkys farm in Paluknys ( Trakai district ).

In 2001, the previously independent scientific institutes for animal husbandry in Baisogala and the veterinary institute in Kaišiadorys were attached to the academy. Now there is the LSMU Institute for Animal Science .
