Vlado Kumpan und seine Musikanten ( Czech Kumpanovi muzikanti ) is a Czech brass band . The musical director and founder is Vlado Kumpan .

history

The band was founded by Vlado Kumpan in autumn 2001 and consists of 12 musicians. All musicians are conservatory and college graduates. The repertoire includes the genres polka, country, waltz, swing, big band sound, modern and classic. Singing is deliberately avoided and polkas are played in the Moravian style, that is, more emphasis is placed on bar counting times two and four. In 2003 the band took first place with 95.6 points in the professional class and was European champion of brass music in 2003 .

New appointment in February 2020

On February 11, 2020, a YouTube video appeared in which 12 musicians - including 10 musicians who belong to the cast of Vlado Kumpan and his musicians - announced the foundation of a new band "The 12 Kumpans". No justification for this step was given in the video itself. On February 12th, Vlado Kumpan made an announcement on the band's Facebook page confirming the separation of the bandmaster from his regular cast after 18 years. At the same time, however, all previously announced dates for 2020 were confirmed. These would be carried out with a “new line-up with top musicians from the Moravian brass music scene”. In the announcement, the band expressly distances itself from the cast "The 12 Kumpans". A reason for the separation is not given here either. Later the new line-up was renamed “The 12 Moravians”.
