The Volcán Chingo is a symmetrical stratovolcano on the border between Guatemala and El Salvador . It rises about 900 m above the surrounding terrain. The flat summit crater has broken open on the west side. Further small stratovolcanoes and cinder cones are located on both sides of the volcano along a large north-south facing tectonic ridge. There are more young cones on the Salvadorian side in the south. On the Guatemalan side in the north lies the Volcán las Viboras , a cinder cone with a basaltic tip near the Laguna Atescatempo .
