Aviary keeping
As aviary refers to the placement of useful or ornamental poultry in covered with wire or fixed-roof large cages ( aviary ) outdoors, but also a modified form of the conventional cages of laying hens.
Small mammals
In aviaries for keeping small mammals (e.g. squirrels ), the cages on the ground are usually more robust due to the contamination with urine.
Farm or ornamental poultry
Aviaries for keeping poultry (e.g. chickens, ducks and geese) are often very large, as a large number of animals are usually kept for agricultural use.
In the ornamental poultry area of small animal breeding , fewer animals are kept in an aviary, since z. B. an additional water surface is required for ducks. Please note the minimum requirements for keeping aviaries, which are regulated by the German Animal Welfare Act.
Ornamental birds
In aviaries for keeping pet birds (e.g. parakeets or small birds ), the cages are usually grated on at least three sides or covered with wire and covered with a weatherproof cover on top. This gives the animals enough fresh air and, above all, daylight, without the risk of being injured or killed by cats or martens . Please note the minimum requirements for keeping aviaries, which are regulated by the German Animal Welfare Act.
