People's Bible 2000
The Volksbibel 2000 is a bible program ( freeware ) that is offered for Microsoft Windows , Mac OS and Linux . It contains several copyright-free texts as well as some older texts that are still protected by copyright, which can, however, be distributed free of charge together with the program.

1. The Schöningh'sche Bible
The OT translated and explained from the basic text, by E.Henne OM.M.CAP, Schöningh-Verlag, Paderborn-Bremen-Mainz-Osnabrück-Würzburg 1936 (also considered: The Old Testament, selection based on the translation by Eugen Henne, revised and explained by Osmund Gräff OM Cap, Ferdinand Schöningh-Verlag, Munich-Paderborn-Vienna, 1973).
The NT is here in the version revised by Christoph Wollek in 1994 and supplemented with further comments by Konstantin Rösch OM Cap. Created in 1921 and by Kapistran Bott OM Cap. last edited translation of the New Testament in 1966, which was also published by Ferdinand Schöningh, Munich-Paderborn-Vienna, in 1967. For this new version of the NT, the Vicariate General Paderborn granted the church permission to print in 1995.
The biblical place and person names in the OT and NT have been adapted to the new spelling (as it is also used in the standard translation).
2. The Grünewald Bible
The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Covenants, translated by Paul Riessler and Rupert Storr , Matthias Grünewald Verlag, Mainz, 14th edition.
3. The commentary on the NT by Günther Schiwy (Günther Schiwy: Way into the New Testament, commentary and material, 4 volumes, Echter-Verlag Würzburg, 1965-70). - Chr. Wollek wrote the commentary on the Revelation of John on the basis of the commentary by Heinrich Julius Holtzmann (1832–1910) [in: Hand-Commentar zum Neuen Testament, Vol. 4; Freiburg u. Leipzig 1893] elaborated.
4. The Elberfeld Bible from 1871. - The comments and references to different readings of the Unrevised Elberfeld Bible from 1905, which was released in 2003, are incorporated here.
5. The Luther Bible (1902) is also freely accessible on the Internet.
6. The Vulgate and the Nova Vulgate was / is the official Catholic Latin translation of the Bible.
7. The Septuagint (LXX) - Br. Robert Sandrock OSB (T´nach) provided the text of this ancient Greek translation of the OT.
8. The Greek text of the New Testament, the so-called "textus receptus" is freely accessible on the Internet (see, for example, the collection of the "Finnish University and Research network FUNETArchive FTP.FUNET.FI").
9. The Greek text of the NT by Westcott and Hort (1895) - is provided with short grammatical explanations for each word, the individual words are also assigned to their root forms by means of the "Strong's numbers". - Larry Pierce made this "extended" text available. (In the course of the development of the Greek / German dictionary, which is integrated into the People's Bible 2000 together with this "expanded" Greek text of the NT, some changes have been made in the allocation of the numbers. A complete correspondence with the "Strong" s "as used in the online Bible, for example, is therefore not guaranteed).
10. The Greek / German dictionary - based on the "Strong's" which were also used in the online Bible and revised and expanded by Chr. Wollek.
11. Synonyma of the New Testament - The linguistically revised and partly abridged work by Richard Chenevix Trench (1807–1886), translated by Heinrich Werner (1848–1921).
12. The Hebrew text of the OT and the Hebrew / German dictionary (slightly revised by Chr. Wollek) have been taken from Tnach 5.1 with the kind permission of Br. Robert Sandrock OSB (Tnach 5.1, July 26, 2003; Dictionary: Copyright by Frau Dr. R. Geiger, Br. Robert Sandrock OSB, Mr. G. Schmidt).
13. The Commentaries on the Old Testament Books a. The commentary on the psalms is an adaptation of the works of D.Rudolf Kittel made by Chr.Wollek: Die Psalmen (A. Deichertsche Verlagsbuchhandlung Leipzig, 1929) and by Carl Bernhard Moll: Der Psalter . b. The commentary on the book Isaiah (Dr. Franz Feldmann: Das Buch Isaias , Verlag der Aschendorffschen Verlagsbuchhandlung, Münster / Westf., 1925). c. The commentary on the book Jeremia is a revised version by Chr. Wollek of the second edition by D. Paul Scholz, The Prophet Jeremia , which appeared in the A. Deichertschen Verlagsbuchhandlung Leipzig in 1928 . The book by J. Köberle († 1929), revised by Chr. Wollek, is also integrated into the People's Bible 2000: The Prophet Jeremia ; Verlag der Vereinsbuchhandlung, Calw and Stuttgart, 1908. d. The comments on the so-called "little" prophets (Hoses, Amos, Obadja, Jona, Micha, Nahum, Habakuk, Zefanja, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi) are from "The small prophets" , translated from the original and explained by Dr . Paul Riessler, Verlag von Wilhelm Bader, Rottenburg a. N., 1911. e. The comments on the books Spr, Koh, Hld, Weish, Sir, Klgl, Bar and Dan are taken from the series "The Holy Scriptures of the Old Testament - translated and explained in conjunction with specialist scholars " (in the Peter Hanstein Verlagbuchhandlung, Bonn) "(Editors: F. Feldmann and H. Hercenne).
The article "Investigations on the Lamentations" by F. Wutz (Klerusblatt No. 14/15, Eichstätt 1930) is incorporated into the commentary on the Lamentations .
All Hebrew words of the OT appearing in the annotated books are linked to the Hebrew-German dictionary and a grammatical analysis; they are also literally translated.
Criticism and comparison with alternative Bible programs
The main advantage of the People's Bible over other electronic Bible editions is that it is free. In addition, it comes with some texts that are not available for any other Bible program. These are several Bible texts, Bible commentaries and old-language lexicons, some of which have been revised by the program author Christoph Wollek. The program does not need to be installed. After unzipping it can be started directly in the directory. For working with the ancient biblical texts, it offers automatic grammatical definition and translation of most words (AT) as well as the naming of the basic form (NT). Compared to commercial products, the Volksbibel has the disadvantage that there are almost no up-to-date, copyright-protected texts for it. However, it is possible to integrate other Bible texts in certain formats into the People's Bible. The unfamiliar user interface of the program has been criticized by many users .
