The Khorezm People's Soviet Republic (actually Khwarazmian Soviet People's Republic , also called People's Republic of Khiva , Russian Хорезмская Народная Советская Республика Choresmskaja Narodnaya Sovetskaya Respublika ) was a 1920-1925 Soviet state formation in Choresmien in Central Asia with Khiva as its capital.

Establishment

The Khorezmian Soviet People's Republic was formed in February 1920 as the successor state to the Khiva Khanate after the ruler Sayyid Abdullah Khan, the last Khan of Khiva, abdicated on February 2, 1920 and officially proclaimed it on April 26, 1920. On October 20, 1923 it was converted into the Khorezmian Soviet Socialist Republic (Russian Хорезмская Социалистическая Советская Республика or Khorezmskaya Socialisticheskaya Sovetskaya Respublika ).

The Choresm SSR only existed until February 15, 1925. As a result of the Soviet nationality policy , the area was divided into the newly emerging entities of the Uzbek and Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic and the Karakalpak Autonomous Oblast .
