Pre-run operation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When building a new railway line , for example, pre-run operation is the operation before the entire infrastructure is finally completed.

The aim of the preliminary operation is to use the parts that have already been completed, such as stations , tracks or tunnels , during the often several years of construction and to put them into operation in stages. During the construction of the Rhein-Ruhr Stadtbahn, the existing tram lines were led through the completed tunnels with the help of additional ramps.

This term is also used to describe the provisional use of vehicles other than those finally intended . In the preliminary operation of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr , the BR 141 drove with Silberlingen as a push-pull train before the usual S-Bahn cars were used.
