Preload (mechanics)

Preload is a mechanical tension that is present in components without external stress , which is introduced during production or assembly in order to achieve the desired behavior under load. Occurrence:

• The prestressing of prestressed concrete
• The preload of a rolling bearing
• The preload of a roller guide
• The toughening of toughened safety glass
• The preload of a spring (technology)
  • The preload of the spring of the strut in a vehicle.
• The pretension of a climbing shoe
• The preloading of a screw or a bolt using a preloading tool
