Preload (mechanics)
Preload is a mechanical tension that is present in components without external stress , which is introduced during production or assembly in order to achieve the desired behavior under load. Occurrence:
- The prestressing of prestressed concrete
 - The preload of a rolling bearing
 - The preload of a roller guide
 - The toughening of toughened safety glass
 - The preload of a spring (technology)
- The preload of the spring of the strut in a vehicle.
 
 - The pretension of a climbing shoe
 - The preloading of a screw or a bolt using a preloading tool
