action

The suburban crocodiles are a gang of children into which one is only accepted after passing a dangerous test of courage. When ten-year-old Hannes got into a life-threatening situation, almost all of the shocked gang members abandoned him, and he was only saved by the rapid intervention of Mary, who called the fire department. Since he is punished for his daring action with house arrest, television bans and similar educational measures, he has plenty of time in the following days to look out the window and talk to his mother - especially about Kurt, who is handicapped by paraplegia has never noticed before. He befriends Kurt and eventually wants to take him to the crocodiles. But they are initially not ready to accept Kurt - until he mentions that, since he has little else to do, he has also observed a burglary in the neighborhood. The crocodiles then try to find out who the perpetrators are, and get into a conflict when it turns out that one of the intruders is the older brother of Frank, a member of the gang. But after some back and forth, the police are informed and the crocodiles receive a special reward.

background

Max von der Grün has dedicated a foreword to his son Frank, who is also disabled, and tries to help integrate children like Kurt and Frank.

Film adaptations

The film adaptation Die Vorstadtkrokodile from 1977 differs slightly in the plot from the book. B. Hannes is not saved by Maria, but by Kurt, who watches the test of courage and the misfortune through his telescope and alerts the fire brigade.

The theatrical version from 2009 , which contains a few other differences (e.g. Kurt is called Kai here, the gang leader Olaf is called Olli here, Theo is called Elvis and Willi's name is Jorgo, Frank's brother Egon is called Dennis here) started on March 26, 2009 and gave rise to two sequels in 2010 and 2011 .
