Vortex cordis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The vortex cordis ( cardiac vertebra ) is a heart muscle structure at the apex of the heart ( apex cordis ). It arises from the bending of the superficial subepicardial muscles into the subendocardial inner muscle layer . It could play a central role in defibrillation and reactivation of the heart muscle.
