The Wünschewagen (Last Wishes Dare) is a project of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund in Germany . It includes the use of specially constructed ambulances to fulfill the last, mostly long-cherished wishes of the terminally ill. The terminally ill, often already in hospices or in the palliative wards of clinicsSupervised people express their wishes to the operator. These organize trips, excursions and visits to cultural events or sights for the sick, usually together with their closest relatives. ASB managing director Michael Sander: "The wish-wagon of the ASB Hamburg lives from social commitment, because it should be free for the passengers."

description

Although a wish-wagon is not an ambulance in the strict sense, its equipment still includes state-of-the-art emergency medical equipment. A trained paramedic is also present during the journey . In addition, the wish-wagons are equipped with a following tone horn together with the associated special signaling system, which, according to the StVO , grants the vehicle special rights in road traffic if the system is activated by the driver or front passenger.

history

The concept comes from the Netherlands and has been implemented in Germany since 2014. The people involved in the ambulance, i.e. the driver and medically or nursing trained staff (e.g. paramedics), work on a voluntary basis. Since August 2019, 24 such wishing cars have been around in Germany. The vehicles and the campaigns are financed exclusively through donations.
