WP Carey Inc. is a New York Stock Exchange listed real estate company founded in 1973 by William Polk Carey (1931–2012) and headquartered in New York , USA . The company has been legally structured as a REIT since 2012 . The company owns more than 1200 commercial properties in the USA (64%) as well as Northern and Western Europe (36%, as of December 31, 2019), with which it generated sales of around € 1.2 billion in 2019. The company's market capitalization was around € 10 billion at the beginning of June 2020. In Germany, WP Carey is, among other things, the owner of the properties of several Hellweg hardware stores and Metro Cash & Carry wholesale stores.
