The WAB He 2/2 31–32 are two cogwheel locomotives operated by the Swiss Wengernalp Railway (WAB). They were procured in 1995 as a definitive replacement for the He 2/2 51-65 .

history

From 1992 the Wengernalpbahn (WAB) started thinking about acquiring new rack-and-pinion locomotives. In 1995 two such locomotives, He 2/2 31-32, were built by Stadler Rail , ABB and SLM. The new locomotives were supposed to provide the final replacement of the WAB He 2/2 51–56 and thus also modernize the WAB's locomotive fleet sufficiently. In addition, they should have the task of driving the freight trains on the Lauterbrunnen side, as well as the snow clearing trains there. In 2008, both locomotives were converted as sliding locomotives for the Xrote 21 . They also received an overhaul in 2005 and were rebuilt in 2011.

Technology and structure

The He 2/2 31–32 have a welded steel frame, which is painted in navy blue. The driver's cab is closed and has a front wall door to the maneuvering platform on the valley side. Both locomotives have driver's desks in both directions, but can also be remote-controlled. The 5.75 m long and 16.0 t heavy locomotives are of the type 2 zz. Both axes have a gear drive, as well as a recuperation brake. Since they can cope with a top speed of 22 km / h, they can keep up with all railcars and thus also operate during the ongoing peak hours. As drive motors, they have three-phase motors and achieve an hourly output of 460 kW. They are the first cogwheel vehicles with a three-phase converter drive.

commitment

The He 2/2 31 and 32 are stationed in Lauterbrunnen and are mainly used on the Lauterbrunnen - Wengen section. The locomotives mainly run on freight, work, construction and snow clearing trains. If necessary, also with a passenger car in order to be able to cope with larger rushes of passengers.
