The WAGI Museum Schlieren is an industrial history museum in Schlieren in the Swiss canton of Zurich . It preserves the legacy of the Schweizerische Wagons- und Aufzügefabrik AG Schlieren-Zürich (SWS), closed in 1985, at the original location and is decentralized in parts of the WAGI area. With its exhibitions it is intended to represent the various branches of manufacture of the SWS.

history

The Historic Schlieren association, founded in 2007, looks after the historical legacy of the car and elevator factory. He started with an online museum on his website. In 2016, thanks to the sponsorship from the city of Schlieren and the GHZ commercial and commercial center, the association was able to move into a suitable location on the former factory site of the SWS. In September 2017 the WAGI Museum was opened to the public. In 2018, it entered into a collaboration with the Schindler Group, which is active in elevator construction . The WAGI Museum is to have more exhibition rooms by 2021 and the first lift museum in Switzerland is to be built in cooperation with Schindler Holding AG in Schlieren. In March 2018, the museum announced a virtual reality app that future visitors can use to relive a factory tour in 1902.

Exhibitions

In a permanent exhibition, the museum shows factory utensils and products from the 90-year history of the company, which has carried the city's name around the world with the brand name Schlieren. The various subject areas are dedicated to the former Swiss pioneering work in railway wagon construction , elevator and escalator construction as well as the body construction of the SWS. The company's history is also a major theme in the museum.

The collection of the WAGI Museum includes around 6,000 archive items, factory objects, photo archives and literature from the former SWS. Large parts of the archives have been digitized and recorded. The holdings are - as far as possible - accessible to the public and are shown both in the permanent exhibition at the WAGI Museum Schlieren and as loans in exhibitions in Switzerland. The museum collection comes from a donation from the city of Schlieren, the company Schindler Holding AG, as well as private donations or various purchases.
