The WARR -Experimental-Rakete 2 ( WARR-Ex 2 ) is a technology carrier developed by students at the Technical University of Munich . The rocket is primarily used for flight tests of the hybrid rocket engine HYPER-1 and for training the operators.

development

The development of the WARR-Ex 2 was carried out by several generations of students from different fields. In addition to the flight segment, the ground segment (the launch pad and its controls) as well as the hybrid rocket engine HYPER-1 and its test bench are tailored to the development of the WARR-Ex 2.

First flight

The first flight of the WARR-Ex 2 took place in May 2015 at the CLBI in Brazil . After the take-off was delayed by two days, the aircraft accelerated to supersonic speed shortly after a successful ignition and reached a maximum altitude of 5500 m above sea level. According to the operator of the CLBI, the launch of the WARR-Ex 2 marks the first launch of a hybrid missile on the South American continent. The flight test mainly serves to validate the overall system.

The preparations for the start were embedded in the " 1º Astronautic Workshop Brazil-Germany, 2015, Natal" , which WARR opened with a presentation about the immediate start-up activities and technical challenges.

Successor models

The successful flight tests of the WARR-Ex 2 are followed by the development of the successor model WARR-Ex 2b, which is more optimized for flight performance. Its flight tests are also being carried out at the CLBI in Brazil by a new team of students.
