WBHM is a public radio station based in Birmingham , Alabama . The station supplies the Birmingham Area and, via the WSGN repeater, also the Gadsden Area (North Central Alabama). The station belongs to the University of Alabama in Birmingham, where the studios are also located. WBHM broadcasts programs from American Public Media, National Public Radio, and Public Radio International. WBHM, "Your NPR News Station," is also home to the Alabama Radio Reading Service , the service for the blind and visually impaired in Alabama.

WBHM transmits with 35 kW at 91.7 MHz. WGSN is the station of the Gadsden State Community College and transmits the program from Fort Payne on VHF 104.1 MHz.

Audience participation

WBHM is a "listener-supported service". The listeners raise more than half of the total funding from the WBHM. The transmitter is supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).
