WCBE - Ohio Public Radio ( W-Columbus Board of Education ) is a freelance public broadcaster in Columbus , Ohio and part of National Public Radio .

history

WCBE was founded in 1956 and was the first National Public Radio station in Ohio in 1970 . In the 1980s the station began broadcasting a mixture of the “NPR News” and classical music, but switched to an “Adult Album Alternative” (AAA) format in the 1990s.

In 1980 the Ohio Statehouse News Bureau was established with the aim of providing civic education and reporting on the work of the Statehouse . The News Bureau reporters cover WCBE and the NPR Morning EditionAll Things Considered  and Marketplace
