WCYQ is a commercial radio station based in Knoxville , Tennessee. The station broadcast a country music format until 2013. It is owned by the EW Scripps Company .

The signal is emitted at 100 kW from Cross Mountain (1077 m) north of Briceville and can be heard throughout eastern Tennessee and southeastern Kentucky, including some in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia and Georgia.

history

One station started operations in September 1921 as WNOX. The medium wave station WNOX-AM also belonged to the EW Scripps Company . In the 1960s, WNOX aired a top 40 radio format . In 1974 today's VHF station started.
