Emílio Lúcio Esteves

Emílio Lúcio Esteves (born December 23, 1883 in Taquara , Rio Grande do Sul , † December 10, 1943 ) was a Brazilian general .

Life

Military training, officer and staff officer

Esteves, son of José Luís Esteves and Emília Monteiro Esteves, attended the Tactics and Rifle Preparation School (Escola Preparatória de Tática e de Tiro) in Rio Pardo between April 1903 and January 1906 and then the War School (Escola de Guerra) in Porto Alegre , where he completed a course for officers of the infantry and cavalry until January 1909 . After a brief assignment in the Commission for the General Map of Brazil, he began a course at the Artillery and Engineering School (Escola de Artilharia e Engenharia) in April 1909 and became a lieutenant in February 1911promoted. He was posted to the government of the state of Rio Grande do Sul in June 1911 and became an instructor in the state's military brigade in July 1912. In February 1918 he was promoted to first lieutenant and from January 1921 to January 1922 attended the officers' high school (Escola de Aperfeiçoamento de Oficiais) , whereupon he became chief instructor of the military brigade of Rio Grande do Sul and was promoted to captain there in April 1922 . He was the commander of a battalion of this military brigade and, on the orders of the federal government, took part in the suppression of a revolt led by General Isidoro Dias Lopes in São Paulo on July 5, 1924.

After his promotion to major in October 1924, Esteves took command of a unit of the Rio Grande do Sul Brigade in November 1924 to suppress a revolt in Santo Ângelo led by Captain Luís Carlos Prestes since October 1923 . In August 1925 he was the commander of this unit in the suppression of an uprising by the military movement named after Prestes ( Coluna Prestes ) under the leadership of Miguel Alberto Crispim Rodrigo da Costa in Goiás . In March 1927 he became head of the military preparatory course of the military brigade and as such was promoted to lieutenant colonel in February 1929 . Promotion to general
