WISY

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WISY is the abbreviation for the open source - " W eiterbildungs- I nformation Sy stem". With WISY, the first personal computer-supported further education database in the Federal Republic of Germany started operating in August 1987 at the “You and your world” trade fair in Hamburg. The WISY further education database was operated by the association “Weiterbildungsinformation Hamburg eV” on behalf of the Hamburg school authorities. The initial development was carried out by a project group at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences on behalf of the authority for science and research .

An essential feature of WISY is the presentation of course offers that is conducive to comparison with the help of decision- relevant course features as well as an indexing that brings together similar, competing offers using an educational system and keywords .

The model for the WISY offer development was the further training catalog “1001 LERNEN”. It contained the almost complete overview of the Hamburg further education offer in the form of course lists - structured by an education system based on the German Adult Education Association (DVV). The program simulates this catalog with the access elements table of contents and subject index.

history

WISY should make the training market transparent. The political reason for the government-initiated development mandate lay in the lack of transparency in the largely free and unregulated training market on the one hand and in the need to pay greater attention to further training with its social problem-solving potential on the other. The WISY training database was funded as part of the development of new political design elements, which, in contrast to traditional instruments, do not primarily focus on subsidizing further training, but on improving the framework conditions under which decisions are made for further training. These instruments can be summarized with the terms "information, advice, quality assurance, participant protection".

People seeking advice have been able to reach WISY online since the early 1990s - initially via modem and from 1997 via Internet connection . But it was only from 2004 onwards that WISY achieved a significantly greater information effect through the Internet than the classic print catalog “1001 MAL LEARNING” with a print run of 40,000 issues.
