WMEA is a radio broadcast program based in Portland , Maine , USA . It has been on the air since April 1974, making it the Maine Public Broadcasting Corporation's oldest radio station . The transmitter operates on VHF 90.1 MHz with 24.5 kW ( ERP ).

In 2013, WMEA was ranked fourth in the top ten “Highest Reaching Public Radio Stations” in the United States.
