Epitaph for Peter von Altenhaus in the parish church of St. Jodok in Landshut

Peter von Altenhaus († November 11, 1513 ) was a councilor, stable master and stewardess to Emperor Maximilian I and caretaker of Castle Natternberg near Deggendorf in the service of Duke Wilhelm IV.

Peter von Altenhaus, who came from an aristocratic family in Styria , was a third marriage to Katharina Daum († 1544). She came from a wealthy family in Braunau am Inn .

Under the gallery of the parish church of St. Jodok in Landshut is the red marble epitaph in memory of Peter von Altenhaus, which was created around 1520 by the Landshut sculptor Stefan Rottaler on behalf of Katharina Daum. Its much more modest epitaph is also in the Church of St. Jodok.

Peter von Altenhaus is shown in full figure as a knight with armor (the so-called Riefel armor ), imperial racing flag and sword. The visor of the helmet is folded up so that the facial features can be seen. The knight stands on a dog, the symbol of loyalty.
