WNYY is an oldie station from Ithaca , New York . It was one of the few progressive talk radio stations in the United States. The station transmits for the Ithaca area and radiates on 1470 kHz with 5 kW during the day and at night with 1 kW.

The station is owned by Saga Communications of New England .

history

WNYY took over broadcasts from CNN Radio . From 2004 until its closure in 2010, WNYY was one of Air America's most important affiliates . Progressive talk show hosts such as Jon Grayson, Leslie Marshall and Car Doctor with Ron Annanian could be heard on WNYY for more than twelve years .

The progressive talk format was discontinued on February 1, 2017. The owner, the Cayuga Radio Group (Saga Communications), decided to operate only one talk radio station, WHCU with a conservative talk program. He turned the transmitter into an oldie station.
