Wax jacket

A wax jacket is a weatherproof jacket made of a cotton or cotton blend that is impregnated with wax and oil or with wax alone . It is typical hunting and casual clothing in Great Britain , Ireland and Australia. Wax jackets are available in many variants, for example for fishing , that only reach just below the chest, other variants follow the requirements of the hunt . Wax jackets were popular - especially in the past - among motorcyclists, as the names of models such as Six Days and Trialmaster indicate. They still play a role today among lovers of classic motorcycles.

The internationally best known manufacturers of wax jackets are Barbour and Belstaff ; however, there are numerous other branded manufacturers whose products are mostly not available outside of Great Britain, in particular Royal Scot, Musto or Puffa. There are also various manufacturers who produce domestically in Australia, such as Sunstuff. A number of no-name wax jackets are also available internationally.
