Vakhtang II ( Georgian ვახტანგ II ; † 1292 ) was King of Georgia from 1289 to 1292 . He was the son of David VI. Narin .

Life

After Dimitri II's death, his eldest son David should have succeeded him. This had followed his father into the horde of the Il-Khan Arghun (1284-1291) and had witnessed his violent death. But the Mongols imprisoned him and sent an embassy led by Qutlughschah Mankaberdeli to the court of King David VI. Narin of West Georgia (1259-1293). In order to bind western Georgia ( Abkhazia - Imeretia ) closer to them, they offered the royal crown of eastern Georgia to the eldest son of David. David Narin agreed and Wachtang was sent to the court of Arghun, where he was confirmed as king and married to the sister of the Il-Khan, Oldschai (tu) -Chatun. Since he was detained at the court of the Il-Khan, he could not officially assume his rule in Tbilisi .
