Vadim Andreevich Medvedev

Vadim Andreevich Medvedev ( Russian Вадим Андреевич Медведев ; born March  29, 1929 in the village of Mochonkowo, Yaroslavl Oblast ) is a Russian economist and former politician of the USSR .

biography

Medvedev was the son of a peasant family. The father works for a consumer advice center. In 1939 the family moved near Leningrad. He lived in Leningrad since 1944. He finished his studies in economics and industrial engineering at the Leningrad University in 1951 . He then headed a department at the Leningrad Institute of Technology. He received his PhD in economics in 1968.

From 1968 to 1970 he was secretary of the Leningrad party committee, since 1970 deputy head of the propaganda department of the Central Committee (ZK) of the CPSU in Moscow and from 1978 to 1983 rector of the Academy of Social Sciences. From 1983 to 1986 he acted as head of department in the science and education department and from 1986 to 1988 as head of department for relations with communist and workers' parties in the socialist countries in the Central Committee of the CPSU. From 1984 to 1989 he was a member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR . From 1986 to 1990 he was Secretary of the Central Committee and from 1988 to 1990 a full member of the Politburo . He was a close advisor to Gorbachev and has been a member of the Gorbachev Foundation since 1992.

He supported Gorbachev since 1983 in the implementation of a new direction ( glasnost (openness) and perestroika (reshaping) of politics). Together with Alexander Nikolajewitsch Jakowlew, he has been campaigning for a transformation of economic conditions in the USSR since 1985. As a professor, he was a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 1984.

Since January 1992 he has been working for the scientific work in the Gorbachev Foundation and in the Institute for Economics.

His brother Nikolai Andreevich Medvedev was rector of the Kaliningrad State University from 1975 to 1994 .
