Weapons collection is the name for thematically oriented collections of weapons.

These can exist in exhibitions as well as museums and also as a private collection . Collecting refers to the systematic search, procurement and storage , also in the field of weapons .

For weapon collections, statutory provisions apply to the acquisition, accessibility, storage and demilitarization of weapons and equipment. In Germany, this is regulated in particular by:

  • Section 17 WaffG Acquisition and possession of firearms or ammunition by weapons or ammunition collectors
  • 36 WaffG Storage of weapons or ammunition
  • War Weapons Control Act

Special security measures are necessary for publicly accessible weapon collections. The presentation and exhibition conditions were described as an example in the guidelines for “Building a Military History Collection”, published by the Federal Ministry of Defense.
