Waheela

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Waheela is a supposed giant wolf in northern Canada and Alaska , but its existence has not yet been proven. The Waheela is described as a large, wolf-like animal. He should be bigger and stronger than a wolf, and have disproportionately large feet. The front legs should be longer than the rear legs. In contrast to the wolf, the Waheela should not appear in a pack. Native legends describe the Waheela as a kind of evil spirit that kills people. If a real background was ascribed to the legend at all, it was associated with specimens of the subordination of the prehistoric bear dogs or with the Canis dirus , an extinct relative of today's wolves from the Pleistocene .

This animal is probably identical to the Amarok , a giant wolf in Eskimos mythology .
