The election for the National Assembly in Djibouti 2018 took place on February 23, 2018 in the northeast African state of Djibouti .

Election result

The Union pour la Majorité Présidentielle (UMP) of President Ismaël Omar Guelleh increased its majority in the National Assembly from 55 to 57 seats. The opposition Union for Democracy and Justice - Djiboutian Democratic Party (UDJ-PDD) won seven places. Other major opposition parties boycotted the elections on the grounds that they were not fair or transparent. They had already boycotted the 2016 presidential election, in which Guelleh, who has been in power since 1999, was re-elected.

Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed , a brother-in-law of the president, said the electoral process was transparent and conducted in a calm environment. The number of women in the new parliament had more than doubled from seven to 15 after a female quota of 25% (previously 10%) had been introduced in January 2018.
