Campaign agreement
An election campaign agreement is an agreement between competing parties to restrict or exclude the use of certain types of election campaigns. This usually includes the general agreement of a fair campaign style. Specifying an upper number of campaign posters in public space is also part of the usual agreements, particularly in municipal campaign agreements.
While election campaign agreements are still infrequent in the municipal sector today, comparable agreements have not been made at federal level in Germany since 1980. In the run-up to the Bundestag election at the time, the former Protestant military bishop Hermann Kunst headed an arbitration commission as chairman, which was supposed to monitor compliance with the election campaign agreement.
