The Merano Waldorf School is the first and therefore the oldest school in South Tyrol , which was founded according to the pedagogical principles of Rudolf Steiner .

history

In 1979 the Rudolf Steiner School Association was founded in Merano . The aim was and is to spread Rudolf Steiner's Waldorf education in South Tyrol. In 1980 the first kindergarten group was set up in a private apartment. In 1981 the kindergarten moved to the "Villa Steinling". where the house owners Lieselotte and Annemarie von Steinling made rooms available for the kindergarten. In 1982 Lieselotte Steinling died. The Merano Waldorf School began teaching in 1986, with Othmar Asam as the “founding teacher” .

Current situation

Today (2010) the Villa Steinling houses a comprehensive school (elementary and middle school), a kindergarten and a play group for small children. The school is currently attended by over a hundred students of all levels. The Merano Waldorf School was recognized as a school type by the cultural authorities two years ago. This means that the school can apply for funding from the State of South Tyrol and the City of Merano, although it is not yet on an equal footing with state schools. The pupils are picked up by two specially purchased school buses and brought back to some remote locations.
