Valery Sokolov
Valery Sokolov ( Ukrainian Вале́рій Соколо́в , in English spelling Valeriy Sokolov ; born September 22, 1986 in Charkiw , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian violinist .
Life
He began playing the violin at the age of five and made his first appearance at the age of eleven with the 5th concerto by Henri Vieuxtemps and, as an encore, a sonata by Eugène Ysaÿe . In 1999 he received a scholarship to the Yehudi Menuhin School in England in the International Sarasate Competition . In 2005 he won the international George Enescu Prize. He then attended master classes with Mstislaw Rostropowitsch , Zvi Zeitlin and Dora Schwarzberg . He also took part in the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad .
There is a film about Sokolow produced by Bruno Monsaingeon in 2006 with the title “The violinist of the soul”.
