Wallbachtalbrücke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wallbachtalbrücke is a 534 m long railway bridge on the high-speed line Cologne – Rhine / Main . It spans the valley floor on twelve pillars up to 18.5 m high. After the 994 m long Hallerbachtal bridge, it is the second longest bridge on the high-speed line.

It spans the Wallbach Valley, at the confluence of the Wallbach and Wörsbach , and therefore bears its name.

history

planning

The construction of the bridge to cross the Wallbachtal biotope resulted from the spatial planning procedure that was completed in November 1994 . The planning provided for the bridge to be raised 9 m above the level of the motorway in order to be able to move the route up to the base of the embankment of the highway and to reduce the subsequent cutting depths. The planned length was 490 m.

A source from mid-1995 already speaks of a planned length of 534 m. Another from the end of 1995, however, of a planned length of 490 m. At the end of 1997, 534 m were planned.

construction

The continuous beam bridge was the incremental launching method built.

By mid-1999, two thirds of the superstructures had been concreted.

The Wörsbach was temporarily relocated in this section in order to establish a pillar a few meters next to the creek bed. As an ecological compensation , a dilapidated weir on the Wörsbach was removed, thereby improving the passage of the water.

technology

On the east side of the bridge there is a noise protection wall 640 m long. A 370 m long windbreak wall was present on the west side of the bridge.

A special feature of the bridge are the rail extensions that are 155 mm high .
