Walter I. Brisebarre

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Walter I. Brisebarre († around 1135 ) was Lord of Beirut in the Kingdom of Jerusalem .

Walter Brisebarre is mentioned for the first time in May 1125 as a witness in a document from King Baldwin II of Jerusalem . By January 1126 at the latest, Baldwin II had appointed him Lord of Beirut. His predecessor in Beirut, Fulko von Guînes , had died at the time and left no heirs.

There is no primary source of his death. Walter signed a document for the last time in January 1135. From 1138 his brother Guido I. Brisebarre is documented as lord of Beirut. Therefore it is mostly assumed that he died after 1135 and that his brother inherited him.
