Walter Meier-Arendt

Walter Meier-Arendt (born June 12, 1938 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German prehistoric scientist

After working in Darmstadt and at the Roman-Germanic Museum in Cologne, he was director of the Archaeological Museum in Frankfurt from 1980 to 2001 . Under his management, the current location of the museum in the former Carmelite monastery , which was expanded to include a new building by Josef Paul Kleihues , was moved to the end of the 1980s . During his term of office there was a whole series of highly regarded international special exhibitions that he organized together with partner institutions from Hungary and Romania, among others.

With his research on the Neolithic in West Germany, Professor Walter Meier-Arendt laid the foundations for Neolithic research that are still valid today. His dissertation on ribbon ceramics in the Lower Maing area and his habilitation thesis on the Hinkelstein group are "classics" of prehistoric research literature.

He is an appointed member of the Association of State Archaeologists in the Federal Republic of Germany
